What’s Your Life Purpose? How Do We Know Anyway?

Your life purpose can be a huge topic but we are going to look at a couple of key factors to ensure we are on track with it. For some people they were born knowing though not necessarily consciously, so they just go about life driven by this higher purpose so they may not feel the need to sit down with a pen and paper and plan.

Man is not born to solve the problems of the universe, but to find out what he has to do… within the limits of his comprehension.” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

For others they may feel they have drifted around through life without a clue and when faced with this question can feel as though they have wasted time in the not really knowing and still might not have any idea upon closer contemplation.

Others still, might believe they are a mixture of the two sometimes deliberate, whether consciously or not and also a part-time wanderer.

Invariably life has a funny rule of making us look back in hindsight and saying ‘Oh yes, I see that now’ or sometimes ‘Oh no, I understand where I went wrong’.

Either way as a part of the Universe’s bigger picture sometimes we need to view ourselves both close up and in detail along with from a bird’s eye view with some perspective in order to gain the most comprehensive picture.

Great minds have purposes, others have wishes.” ~ Washington Irving

The reason being that whilst we may be driven and have a conscious purpose, the real art of living your life on purpose is to do so with balance, grace and integrity. What use is a burnt out miserable person who maybe has accomplished their no. 1 priority in life but has forsaken everything else.

Whilst it is pertinent to have some clue about what you want to do, be and have during your life time it is also essential to balance this out with some wider aspirations. For example if you are very focused on your social life, maybe your health is suffering. If you are worried about money all the time, then are you living in the moment and enjoying the day for what it is. For some it might be a career obsession at the forfeit of their personal relationships. Clearly, when we look closely at such observations we can see that your life purpose is indeed a bit more complex and multi-layered. However, once we know and understand this we can become fabulously swift at making any instant corrections right here and right now.

Our primordial purpose is to respond to the impulsion from within to solve the mystery of our individual existence, to find and be the authentic Self that is, has been and ever shall be.”  ~ Michael Beckwith

All we need to do is take a look at our lives, that is from a wider perspective as a whole right through to a macro view of one day. Is it balanced? Are we happy? How are our health and our relationships? What about the finances and our feelings of contribution and fulfillment?

We know there are many areas and questions and understandably this depth can put people off even bothering so they continue to live their busy lives, possibly with a sense of loss within. That is a real shame that you can’t even spare yourself ten minutes for a quick appraisal and even the smallest changes can have monumental impact.

If Heaven made him – earth can find some use for him.” ~ Chinese Proverb

Ultimately you are here for a purpose and that can be absolutely anything, you are not in competition with anyone else, your spiritual self has come here for a journey, a lesson or an experience so it could encompass unlimited permeations so don’t bother comparing yourself to anyone else.

Your number one priority is to go within and seek, it will find you and with this knowledge you can make adjustments, considerations, plans and goals. However, you will need to incorporate these mandatory expressions which are your own happiness and balance. Think of it this way if you feel happy and in harmony you can do anything, cope with most things, think clearly and be of more general use to others. If you are not then the converse happens. It is not selfish to focus on your own self happiness and purpose; it is in actual fact the total opposite. You can only serve others if you have served yourself first, then you find the cup in and cup out works beautifully. You cannot however, start pouring a cup out when there is nothing in it in the first place.

Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out. Share. Smile. Hug. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.” ~  Og Mandino

There is no better method of checking whether you are on purpose or not, than how you feel. When you feel you are getting closer or are on the path, you can’t help but feel excited or have confident anticipation, there is no thinking happening it is just being, you just know.

We have to break this down and understand that on the multi levels we are seeking our own happiness in what we do with continued balance in how we apply ourselves to our purpose alongside living our lives with others and our daily commitments. Simultaneously we are chipping away, being mindful in the moment of our happiness and gratitude to be here, consciously ensuring we are keeping our balance in check and moving forward no matter how slowly along our life’s purpose path.

If we can successfully juggle those components we are truly on our way. Whilst that might be fairly simplistic in our every increasingly complex lives, simple is always the best place to start and in some cases end too. We must first clear the clutter and remove the nonsensical in order for us to regain focus, balance and an invigorated spirit. As humans we rely on our trinity of mind, body and spirit to live, express and blossom who we really are.
